PARC Radio & Technology (https://parcradio.org) is a national and international, all-volunteer organization of amateur radio operators, technologists, repeater owners, educators, and public service advocates dedicated to advancing radio communication, training, and emergency preparedness. Originally founded to maintain a network of D-STAR repeaters, PARC has since grown into a dynamic group that supports digital and analog voice modes (including D-STAR, Fusion, DMR, and analog FM), emergency communications, public outreach, and testing services.
Membership is open to licensed amateurs and anyone interested in amateur radio, digital networks, public service, and technical education. Our members span the United States as well as around the world and regularly contribute to a wide range of initiatives including Field Day, Parks on the Air (POTA), search and rescue support, and community events.
PARC is especially well known for its leadership in amateur radio exam administration. As one of the three original groups authorized by the ARRL to pioneer Remote Video Online Testing, we are now the largest VE group affiliated with the ARRL, and our examiners are accredited with ARRL, Laurel, and W5YI. We regularly offer in-person testing at hamfests and remote online exams, helping ensure wide access to licensing opportunities.
We take pride in helping every applicant succeed. While online testing rules may seem strict, they are primarily in place to deter cheating. If you're honest, 90% of the rules won’t even apply to you. Our team pioneered the online experience, and we’re here to guide you every step of the way. If you have questions or special needs, just reach out via email—we’ll do what we can to help.
Beyond testing, PARC is actively involved in education and outreach, offering presentations and hands-on instruction to youth groups, community organizations, scouts, and schools. We are proud to serve as the Volunteer Examiner Liaison for the Auburn University Amateur Radio Club (AUARC), one of the oldest continually operating college radio clubs in the country. At Auburn, we offer license exams, technical training, and mentoring, and we support Alpha Phi Omega in delivering merit badge workshops to hundreds of Scouts during campus events. We also support Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) and other efforts to introduce amateur radio to the next generation.
You’ll also find PARC members volunteering at Hamvention, Hamcation, and community service projects throughout the South and around the world—providing logistics, communications, and technical support whenever needed. When disaster strikes, we are ready to help communities recover with experienced radio operators and dependable systems.
We invite you to learn more or get involved by visiting parcradio.org. Whether you’re a new ham, an experienced operator, or just curious about communications and technology, we’re here to welcome you.
