The Lake Amateur Radio Association (LARA) was founded in 1952 by a small group of dedicated radio enthusiasts, LARA has grown into a vibrant community of over 150 members.
The LARA clubhouse, located at 11146 Springdale Ave., Leesburg, FL 34788, also serves as a center for learning and emergency preparedness and has the following equipment:
- Radio Operating Facility:
- A 161-foot tower and an extensive antenna farm
- Four fully equipped operating positions supporting HF, VHF, and UHF communications
- Multiple operating modes, including P-25, WINLINK, FT-8, Echolink, and more
- Emergency Communications:
- A fully outfitted Emergency Communications Trailer ready for public service and emergencies
- Advanced Repeater Network:
- Three VHF repeaters and three UHF repeaters, including a link to the or the East Coast Reflector
- Two DMR repeaters connected on “Local 2” for excellent county-wide coverage
LARA operates using the call K4FC. The LARA ARES division, LCARES, operates under the call sign N4FLA.
